Good job, little brother.

Just to let y’all know…

gallifreyburning:

I’m going to be almost completely without internet until June 10th.

Which means, basically, I’m dropping off the face of the earth. If you send me a message or tag me or whatever, I’m not going to reply.

It’s not because I don’t love you, or because I didn’t thoroughly enjoy our romantic evening (don’t worry I still respect you and everything), but because I just CAN’T.

My queue is loaded up, so my blog won’t be totally dead, and I’ll be back my lovelies.

No!!! It’s like Doomsday; you’re the Doctor, and we—your followers—are Rose, and we’ve been left behind with only the memories. Hope your days between now and then are good!

“Well, at least you can understand why I’d think you’re…” Sara made a twirling gesture next to her temple with her index finger. She said apologetically. “It’s not every day people walk around talking casually about visiting other planets. Unless they’re on drugs or wear a tin foil hat.” She smiled. “But be fair; I’ve only just met you, and…” Sara trailed off for a moment, looking Lyra in the eyes, studying her expression. That niggling feeling in Sara’s brain just kept echoing different, different, different. “…and I don’t think you’re crazy,” she said, startled at her own words.”But I do think you’re lonely.”

Lyra looked at her questioningly, maybe even a bit surprised. Sara continued, “I mean, who comes to hang out on a university campus in the middle of the day, then strikes up a conversation with me?” Sara studied Lyra’s confused expression. She sipped her tea once more, then spoke more softly. “Usually I’m the one starting the conversation, trying to make a friend. Usually failing.” Then Sara’s face split wide open into an enormous grin. “But not today.” It was half-question, half-statement. “So…Apalapucia…60 lightyears away, huh? How’d you manage that?”

“I suppose I can understand it, but it doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.” There was a stern meaning behind Lyra’s words but she contradicted it with a gentle, friendly smile.
“And, yeah, you could say I’m lonely, I’m not in the right universe for a start, I don’t know anyone. I’m only seventeen, I haven’t even left home yet.” She stopped herself before she could start to vent all of her feelings to a girl she had only just met. “I came to this campus completely out of the blue, I didn’t expect it, but I’m glad I did,” she smiled over the rim of her glass at Sara and took a swig, “Really? I’d expect you to have a lot of friends, you’re so nice. Don’t you have a room-mate or something? I don’t really know about universities, I haven’t left school - I should be in it but I’m in the wrong universe… and time probably!”
Lyra sighed and looked out the window and at the sky for a few moments, she shrugged and turned back to Sara, “Well, what’s done is done, I suppose. And on the subject of Apalapucia, I got there in my TARDIS of course! How else?”

Sara gave a sheepish tight-lipped smile at Lyra’s reproach and her subsequent smile. Sara’s face twisted into a ridiculous grin. “Y’know, I never said I thought crazy was a bad thing.” She watched the distant look in Lyra’s eyes when she spoke of her loneliness. “I came to this campus completely out of the blue, I didn’t expect it, but I’m glad I did,” Lyra said, smiling as she sipped her water. “I’m glad you did too; now you can’t say you don’t know anyone.” Lyra’s gaze caught on Sara a moment, brushing the comment aside to finish her statement, or rather; her question, before turning to look out the window, eyes to the sky. “No, I don’t have many friends,” Sara said to her cheek, “I can only guess why. Maybe because I feel like I don’t belong and they can tell.” Sara blinked. Now that she’d verbalized her own wistful humor at Lyra’s idea that she’d have a lot of friends, she finally processed the end of Lyra’s statement. “Wha…wrong universe?” She opted not to pick it apart. “No wonder we’ve hit it off.” Lyra turned back to her and smiled a little. “And on the subject of Apalapucia, I got there in my TARDIS of course! How else?” Sara blinked. “Tardis?”

“I don’t think so, I think that if you can come up and talk to someone unknown and they can stay in their cliques then you are the better person.” She laughed lightly at Sara’s apparent shock at ‘the wrong universe’, although for her it was just a cover-up for how sad she was inside. “Yep, the wrong universe! It’s a bit of a pickle really, I stuck here as well. With no way home… Not that you want to be bothered by that!”
When Sara mentioned the TARDIS, Lyra’s eyes lit up, “The TARDIS!” She practically squealed, “It stands for: Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. Which basically means it can travel through Time and Space, it’s very confusing and hard to understand, I only get some of it because of the part Time-Lord I have from my dad.”

Sara was finding it easier to accept the more surreal bits of Lyra’s statements. “It’s not a bother. I wish I could help. The only science I’m good at is science fiction,” she said, turning the corners of her mouth up into a slight smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Time and relative dimension in space,” Sara repeated, a bit awestruck. “A time machine. You’re telling me you have a time machine.” Lyra smiled. As Sara started connecting the dots in her head, Lyra’s smile turned into a grin. Time travel isn’t possible. Yes it is. Not for humans. Maybe for aliens? Time Lord? Alien. Sara’s mind was rolling like a tumble dryer. She leaned forward and spoke in a low voice, so no one would overhear. “So you’re telling me you’re half alien and you have a time machine.” There was no hint of disbelief in her voice. That nagging sense of different different different had been pounding in Sara’s brain since their conversation started, almost like she could smell it in the air; a aura of different hanging around Lyra like an invisible halo. Sara only wanted confirmation; no gray area and no misinterpretation.

“Yes,” Lyra said, sipping her water. She set the plastic bottle down on the table and put on a serious face, poising herself to speak.

Well, technically, my body is human just with my senses heightened a bit. But my brain and mind is enhanced by the Time Lord from my dad, I can see things that could happen, might happen, should happen, have happened, will happen that others can’t. When I concentrate hard anyway, and some other cool stuff.” She looked at Sara full in the face to see how she was taking this, if she was believing it or not. She seemed okay, if a little shocked, so Lyra carried on.

“It does travel in time, it’s amazing! My parents travelled a lot before they had me so I’ve always wanted to give it a try. So I did. I’ve met The Beatles, you know!” Lyra spoke loudly, confidently, disregarding Sara’s hushed tones and awareness of those around them. She’s had so much fuss about this in the past she just honestly couldn’t care much anymore. She sighed thoughtfully, “And of course it travels through space as well.”

The Beatles? Sara’s face broke into a grin. “Wow. Just…wow,” it was all overwhelming, both what Lyra was telling her, and the fact that she believed it. She rubbed her face, “If you’ve got the whole world, I mean the whole everything why would you come here?” Sara’s voice had taken a manic tone. It was more like she was announcing that she’d won a free cake than questioning Lyra’s travel choices.

She paused for a moment. “The science department.” Her eyes grew wide and her words started tumbling out at an alarming speed. “The article in the university paper…the physics professor…doctor…doctor…I can’t remember his name, but he’s making that thing!” She began rifling through her bag and pulled out a slightly rumpled newspaper from earlier in the week. “Yeah, the…some of the professors are building a…” she unfolded the paper and scanned the article quickly looking for the words, but not finding them and giving up. She handed the paper to Lyra and said, “It’s a wormhole-thing, like that old TV show, see?”
